New Series of AmpRA 2900-CL Battery Electric Tugs for Cheoy Lee Shipyards
May 8, 2026

Robert Allan Ltd. is pleased to announce the signing of a contract to design a new series of AmpRA 2900-CL battery electric ship assist tugs for Cheoy Lee Shipyards Ltd. in Hong Kong.
With innovative styling, escort capabilities, and up to ~7 MWh of battery capacity, this design builds on a strong and successful relationship between Robert Allan Ltd. and Cheoy Lee Shipyards Ltd. These vessels will reduce fuel consumption, reduce maintenance, and help decarbonize harbour tug operations.
In daily service, the tugs will operate on battery power alone. However, two generators will be installed on board to extend operations and support delivery voyages. This provides operators with maximum flexibility.
The installed power of the AmpRA 2900-CL will allow it to achieve a bollard pull of up to 70 tonnes.
Robert Allan Ltd. is proud to continue its tradition of working with Cheoy Lee through this innovative new design, which will help decarbonize shipping.
