RANGLer SERIES
The RANGLer series of LNG (or dual fuel) powered escort and ship-handling tugs were conceived to take maximum advantage of the very limited space available for LNG fuelled systems in tugs, and hence look at tug design configurations with fresh eyes for this important new sector.
With growing interest in work boats of many types fuelled by LNG, or even with dual-fuel capability, Robert Allan Ltd has looked carefully at the real challenges of making this a truly viable alternative in such small craft. The unique RANGLer concept is but one of several ideas which has been developed by Robert Allan Ltd to achieve this end; placing the gas tank forward and oriented vertically for maximum advantage.
With a 6:1 space disadvantage compared to diesel-powered alternatives however, it is unlikely that many pure gas-powered tugs will be built. Dual fuel alternatives however offer significant promise.
RANGLer OPTIONS
The RANGLer series designs are at present conceptual, but developed sufficiently to prove the viability of this unique concept.
