Ship Structural Designer
Robert Allan Ltd. is seeking an experienced specialist in the structural design of tugs, steel ships, barges, and workboats to join our design team. The Structural Designer is responsible for developing various vessel types for local and international clients. Our Head Office is in Vancouver next to Granville Island in the Armoury District. Flexible work arrangements are available and working remotely can be considered from within Canada.
Working in collaborative project teams, the successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years experience in steel ship structural design and analysis for cargo vessels including bulk carriers, container ships, and tankers. An in-depth familiarity with marine classification society rules and first principle calculations is required along with practical knowledge of welding, repairs, modifications, and conversions. The candidate will have the ability to work independently, manage priorities and apply sound judgment and decision-making to solve complex technical problems. Eligibility to be registered as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC is an asset, but not required.
Duties and Anticipated Tasks
- Structural design drawings in AutoCAD and supporting calculations for ship structures including tugs, cargo vessels, barges
- Supporting the development of structure-related drawing templates
- Participation in various technical groups within the company
- Mentoring junior technical staff
